Our Story
In 1985, I began a journey driven by a deep passion for boats and a relentless desire to master the craft of marine coatings. What started as a one-man operation has evolved into Touch of Gloss—one of New Zealand’s most respected names in the marine industry. Family-owned and operated, our business is built on over 40 years of hands-on experience, with a strong father and son partnership at its core.

    I started out in the marine industry back in 1985, straight out of school with a strong work ethic and a real passion for boats. Not long after, I set up my own business, which has grown into a well-respected name in the industry. Over the past 40 years, I’ve built up deep experience working in Auckland’s boat yards, painting and servicing some of New Zealand’s most well-known boats, often alongside some of the country’s top builders. That hands-on experience and reputation have taken me around the world, where I’ve had the chance to refine my skills and build strong, lasting relationships with clients and teams alike. It’s been a rewarding journey – and the passion for the work is still very much there.

    I’ve been around boats pretty much my whole life – started out giving Dad a hand during school holidays and never really stopped. What kicked off as a bit of holiday work turned into a full-blown career in the family biz. I got my apprenticeship under my belt and now I’m running teams and making sure every job is finished to a high standard. With 8 years in the game, I know how to keep things on track and deliver solid results, on time and up to scratch.

    I’ve been involved in the business since day one, working alongside Dale as the company grew. Over the years, I’ve taken care of the admin and behind-the-scenes work, making sure everything runs efficiently and stays on track. It’s been rewarding to be part of the journey and to support the business through its growth and success.
